Hair Care 101: Classification of Hair #2
With all the many hair classifications roaming around, I thought I'd do a post on my understanding of a different states of hair.
Natural Hair
This is a pretty easy one to understand. It's the hair that naturally grows outta your nugget without being altering by chemical or heat; be it straight, wavy, kinky, fine, dense, blonde, red, black or purple.
This again is easy to understand. It is the type of hair that has been treated to change its natural state, repair any damages that have occurred or nourish the hair. This can either be done using chemicals, heat or a mixture of both. Under this category you will find hair treatments like- relaxing, texlaxing, texturising, perming, colouring/dying hair, Brazilian blowout, protein treatments, Moroccanoil treatments, volumising hairsprays, hair masks etc. With all hair treatments, I feel we should know exactly what they entail so that you are fully aware of what is being done to your hair and how best to take care of it after the treatment.
Protected Hair
I kind of made up the name of this category so that I could place the other kinds of hair in one... category. By protected hair I mean those that are kept away from harsh weather, combs and us fiddling about with it constantly. Examples of this are: hair hidden under wigs & weaves, in single strand braids, twists & locs and in cornrows/canerows/braids etc. Some of these hairstyles can be done with the use of hair extensions as well. Although you could argue that these are hairstyles and not types of hair, I wanted to mention them because they are states of hair that some people have predominantly.
Doing this series totally makes me want to go on a hair care training course but, I shall save my pennies for more important things like food and cinema trips for now. If you have anything to add on this topic please leave your comments below. I am always looking to learn more about all states of hair.
Till next time!
