MOVIE MONDAYS: THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS- CITY OF BONES

The idea of writing multiple posts and publishing them all on the same day has only just occurred to me. Hopefully I will catch up to where I am currently movie-wise and then all will be right in my little world. Right, to kick of this post-athon is- The Mortal Instruments

My taste in movies and books is kind of varied. But you can totally expect me to really love a movie/book like this. And yes, I am a Twilight fan #NoShame :D I had no idea this was based on a book. And it is not just a book. There is a whole series (!!) which I was happy to hear. They were written by Cassandra Clare. I hope to get them soon! And yes, I do know how old I am lol. Ok, I shall stop rambling and get on with it.

The Mortal Instruments is about a girl named Clary whose life gets catapulted into a world where having a narrow perspective on the wonders the world beholds is not an option. In this movie you can be sure to find werewolves, warlocks, vampires and shadowhunters- warriors that protect us from things that go bump in the night.

Now, I know what some of you may be thinking but I thoroughly enjoyed it; to the point where I wanted to see it again on the same day I watched it for the 1st time. And I think I may have been nutty enough to do it had I not had a dinner to attend that evening. I think it was mostly because I was so confused towards the end. The relationship between some of the characters got so entwined that I didn't know my left from my right. And I have to find out what the real deal is or else... I might cry lol. Oh and also, the City of Bones bit kind of went over my head. I do not think I was paying attention to what I was meant to be listening to. I guess I was preoccupied? :D

I have heard that fans of the book are not big fans of the film and this is why sometimes I prefer to watch the movie and then read the book. But I have to leave enough time for me to forget the plot (which is not long actually) so that I can read the book and have the chance of creating my own version of the story in my head as I turn the pages of the book.

Lily Collins (Mirror, MirrorThe Blind SideAbduction) starred as the stubborn yet caring Clary Fray who learns that life as she knows it may not be all there is. Jamie Campbell Bower (Breaking Dawn 1 &2; CamelotNew Moon) took on the role of Jace Wayland, a  lethal shadowhunter who has a soft side to him but has also mastered the art of clenching his jaw :). Then you have Alec Lightwood, another shadowhunter who creates a lot of tension in the group. I quite like his character for some reason. He was played by good ol' Kevin Zegers (Gossip Girl; It's a Boy Girl Thing). And the character who always made me smile was Simon Lewis, a mundane (an ordinary human being) who is Clary's funny best mate. Robert Sheehan (Misfits) was the man who brought this character to life. Does anyone remember Nathan from Misfits? Hilarious character.

More Info: This 2013 film was directed by Harald Zwart (The Karate KidAgent Cody Banks) and the screenplay was written by Jessica Postigo.

I am not saying go out right now to go and watch this movie as it will change your life for the better because I have to be honest- it wasn't the greatest movie of the month of August 2013. Some lines and scenes were too cringe worthy to describe but (!!) I really enjoyed it. All I am saying is, if you come across the moment where you have the opportunity to watch it, do not dismiss it without a moment's thought.

At least consider watching it...

Till next time!

Luv, Mo
