Behind-the-Scenes

Soulful Sunday: Tearing Down Our Walls

[source of pic]
Well, today's sermon was a pleasant surprise.

I have been sort of lacking the motivation to write up my dissertation. I didn't realise how draining it would be. It's why I have been sort of M.I.A this week. But today, I decided I needed to go to church because in whatever state of mind I may be in, I see more clearly in that building; surrounded by so many people who love God and the people around them...or at least eager to learn to love God and the people around them.

The morning started off with the usual praise and worship but the song of choice for the" closing song " was the one that really got to me- Spirit Break Out.  You can listen to the song here but I shall put the lyrics below:

Our Father, all of heaven roars Your name
Sing louder, let this place erupt with praise
Can you hear it, the sound of Heaven touching Earth
The sound of Heaven touching Earth
[x3]

Spirit break out
Break our walls down
Spirit break out
Heaven com down
[x2]

King Jesus You're the name we're lifting high
Your glory shaking up the earth and skies
Revival- we wanna see Your kingdom here
We wanna see your kingdom here
[x2]

Spirit break out
Break our walls down
Spirit break out
Heaven com down
[x2]

King Jesus You're the name we're lifting high
Your glory shaking up the earth and skies
Revival- we wanna see Your kingdom here
We wanna see your kingdom here
[x2]

Spirit break out
Break our walls down
Spirit break out
Heaven com down

Spirit break out
Break our walls down

Now, I am not a christian that knows all the gospel songs by heart ok? I  read off the projection board like some of you too lol. It was the first time I'd heard the song and it definitely won't be the last as I've already bought it on itunes :D. I did a bit of digging and have found that quite a few people have sung this song but that is not really the point of me sharing this with you.

The point is, the lyrics of the song just really...spoke to me. And it totally prepared us for the sermon that came after it.

"Spirit break out; break our walls down".

Whatever is holding you back from doing something that you have been meaning to do, praying for the Holy Spirit to fill you up and open your eyes to seeing the bigger picture is a way to break those walls/chains that are restraining you from shining/smiling/laughing/living. It is also a way for the power of God working through and in is to be put on display to the world.

The topic of discussion today was by a lady called Phillipa-

" What Motivates You?"

Eerie, I know lol. The general jist of the sermon was that in whatever we do we should do things that please God. And I was like...well, I managed to get to my final year of uni studying a pretty ridiculous  intense course. I am here for a reason surely. Why should I throw away all that effort? Why not end with a pretty big bang and give all glory to God for making it possible. I mean, that could be one thing I have the ability to do that would please God, me and my family. And I'll sleep easier knowing that I did my best and I won't have to worry about another reason why companies may reject me when I apply for jobs lol.

She listed three things that we could do that would please God:
1.  Walk with Him
Learn to live in His presence daily be it through worship; reading His word; being involved in bible study groups etc. Eagerly seeking encounters with Him by giving out moments of our time to get to know Him is a big way to please Him. Just like Enoch did waaaaay back in Genesis 5: 18-23. Unlike the other people mentioned in that chapter, we were not only told his name and when he died, but we were told that he enjoyed a close relationship with God and that God took Him.  This can be seen to be a pretty big hint that having a close relationship with Him is a way to please Him to the point of Him setting you a part from others.

2. Our Obedience
In the book of Matthew 3:13-17, this statement can be found- " This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased". Jesus pleased God by being obedient and playing His part in spreading the gospel. Obedience is an act of sacrificial love which is a delight. Listening to the Holy Spirit and obeying the hints and pieces of advice He sends our way is a way to please God. It is definitely not the easiest thing in the world as doubt creeps in. Obeying only when we know that a favourable outcome is up ahead is not obedience. To obey can be "expensive"" but doing it will bring not only God satisfaction but us as well.

3. Our Interaction with Others
The way we love one another matters. Learning to love others may be difficult but, trying to live from a heavenly perspective does please God. If you have read my other post on 'Loved Lovers Loving Others' then that what I've said there fits into this section. If you haven't, you can find the posts here-  (1) and (2)

I know this is pretty long post and I applaud those who managed to read every word lol. Learning to be active and not passive when it comes to knowing God is something we should all strive for as only good can come from it in the long run :)

Till next time!

Luv, Mo xx
