50/50
What more can one say about this movie?
After having watched Pitch Perfect on Monday, Anna Kendrick came up on my radar again and I was on the hunt for other movies that she has done. That was when I stumbled upon this beautiful movie. Can a movie be beautiful? I dunno but that is how I am describing this one.
Joseph Gordon- Levitt, the man who acted in 'GI Joe: Rise of Cobra', '500 days of Summer', 'Inception', 'The Dark Knight Rises', 'Lincoln' etc was brilliant in this movie. I dunno about those of you who have watched this movie already but I just wanted to hug him, put him in my pocket and protect him from all things bad. Man was his story was moving! All the vulnerabilities and insecurities and fears where portrayed in such I way that I totally felt like I understood his pain.
Oops!
I've jumped the gun here haven't I? I haven't said anything about the movie yet! I'm sorry, I was waay too excited lol.
The movie is about how a 27 year old guy called Adam handles some relatively bad news that was given to him by his doctor. We get to see how he slowly understands the knock-on effect this news has on him and those around him with some help; how the relationship he has with those close to him is sorta tested; and many, many many more things that I cannot say.
The movie felt so honest.
Real. Raw. It felt like I was going through it because I was with each character every step of the way. i somehow felt all his frustrations and fear and hurt and... *shakes head*. Aw! There was a scene towards the end when he is being wheeled away...broke my heart. I don't know how I didn't see this when the movie came out :(
The People.
50/50 was written by Will Reiser who loosely based this story on his own battle with cancer. For apparently his first screenplay, he knocked this one outta the park!
Seeing Angelica Houston (The Addams Family) in this movie was a surprise. Hadn't seen anything she'd done in ages. I loved her character in this movie- Adam's mother. She came across as maybe slightly overbearing (?) but in this movie she has every right to be. Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect; Twilight 1-5; Up in The Air) played the newbie therapist. Her character was so funny and kind and...eager it is hard not to love her. Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express; Superbad; Knocked Up; The Green Hornet). Where do I begin? Lol. His character was hilarious, loyal and suprising. And Bryce Dallas Howard's character, Rachael -the girlfriend- was summat else. She played her part very well that's all I can say lol. All the characters compliment each other perfectly me thinks :)
If you have not seen this movie and you are looking for something to watch, this movie is definitely not a bad choice!
Till next time!
Luv, Mo

p.s a post about my thoughts on Lincoln will be on its way relatively soon.
