MOVIE MONDAYS: JANE EYRE

As far as period dramas go I was honestly surprised by this movie. I think it is mostly due to the fact that I never read the book, which I will be doing right after my last exam as a 4th year Chem Eng student :D

Jane Eyre

This story was penned by the one of the famous Bronte sisters- Charlotte, the eldest of the three- and was published waaay back in 1847. This is why her published work was done under the pseudonym of Currer Bell (1) with her being too much woman and not enough man.

This particular movie adaptation was made in 2011 and I distinctly remember wanting to watch it desperately but I can't for the life of me remember why I never made it to the cinema :(

But anyway, Jane Eyre (2011) is such a good movie! My goodness. I gasped. I cried. I laughed.  And I was shocked by the fact that I didn't have to wait an eternity before I saw a kissing scene as I did for Pride & Prejudice (2005).

It was surprisingly a semi-dark story. I have no idea what I was expecting to be honest. As I have only read books by Jane Austen*, in terms of Victorian (?) authors, I guess was expecting a love story along the same lines. How wrong was I . This was so different. Yes, matters of the heart, class and proprietary were touched upon, as always, but so was religion and the supernatural. It was so odd! But it was very exciting to watch.

*I've been kindly informed that Jane Austen is of the Georgian era- for those of you who are interested to know :) Thanks -paint and words!

I want to watch the other adaptations as well as I find that the older the move is, the closer I feel to the story itself. I have no idea why lol. I can't wait to read my copy of the completely unabridged version of the book. I know my vocabulary and grammar will definitely improve haha.

What are your thoughts on this movie/story?

Till next time!

Luv, Mo
