ON THE EDGE: FILM || VOL. 2

January is looking good in terms of the variety in the films to be released this month. There are so many that I want to see but probably won't be able to this month at least as I was not able to solve the problem of minimising the attraction of the festive season to my bank account. Money was there just a few days before and then.. poof! Anyway, that does not stop me from sharing my picks of films that have me on the edge this month.

INTO THE WOODS

I caught a glimpse of this trailer and was sold! I am not even sure what Into the Woods is really about myself but, looking at the cast, the poster and the mere fact that it is a DISNEY film, I think I am right in assuming it is going to be a good'un. Right? I mean, the lovely Meryl Streep (Mama MiaSophie's Choice) as some kind of witch?! You cannot not want to see that. This movie is already out in cinemas here in the UK so if you have seen it, let me know your thoughts. Click here to see the trailer.

TESTAMENT OF YOUTH

The title and poster alone makes me want to really watch this film. I have not yet seen the trailer but from what I've heard the Testament of Youth is on quite a few people's watch list. The screenplay, written by Juliette Towhidi (Love, RosieCalendar Girls), was based on the memoir of Vera Brittain of her time during World War I and I have a feeling I may need to take some tissues with me... Testament of Youth will be out in cinemas on the 16th of January but in the meantime, click here to see the trailer.

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

A film about hope, strength, perseverance and the quest to understand time. What's not to like? This biopic of Stephen and Jane Hawking is one that is has the capability to make you laugh, cry and find one or 3 things you are really good at & the zeal to perfect those talents. I have already seen it and it was the film of choice for this week's Movie Mondays postThe Theory of Everything, directed by James Marsh, stars Felicity Jones (The Invisible WomanChalet Girl), Eddie Redmayne (Les MiserablesBirdsong) & David Thewlis (The Fifth EstateWar Horse) and is currently out in cinema.Click here to see the trailer.

KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE

Kingsman... What more can I say about this film except that it has Colin Firth (Magic in the MoonlightThe King's Speech) & Samuel L. Jackson (Captain America: Winter SoldierThe Incredibles) in it and could be said to be quite 007-esque? I saw the trailer for this movie a while back - shocking, I know - and I just knew I had to watch it at some point as it seemed funny, a bit moving and highly entertaining. And don't you worry, when I do see it I will be sure to let you know if it was all of those things. Kingsman is out on the 29th of January so keep an eye out for that!

WILD

Ah this is definitely going to be one that will leave you inspired me thinks. Wild is a biographical film that is based on Cheryl Strayed's memoir, 'Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail' and its screenplay was penned by Nick Hornby (An EducationAbout a Boy). It has never occurred to me to test my resolve or find myself in this manner but I am eager to find out what Reese Witherspoon's (Water for ElephantsLegally Blond) character finds out on her journey. And just so you know, Wild is set to be released this Friday (16th January) in the event you too like the looks of the trailer.
