ON THE EDGE : THEATRE || VOL. 5

A few weeks ago, word on a new show by Proud and Loud Arts snuck its way onto my screen and stayed long enough for me to read it twice. I had never heard of Proud and Loud Arts - a theatre company that works with performers who live with disabilities - before but I am glad I have now as this new show, a contemporary version of Pyramus and Thisbe, has caught the strap of my intrigue bag and is subtly tugging at it. Theatre is definitely making its voice heard around these parts and I am not complaining at all.

So... Pyramus and Thisbe... heard of this love story? Cannot say I had before this and if I have come across this tale during my travels exploring the world of storytelling, I have long since forgotten it but I am ready to be regaled afresh with its drama and suspense. Pyramus and Thisbe is a classic love story told by Publius Ovidius Naso a.k.a Ovid - a Roman poet who died around 17 AD - which is found in one of his most popular works, Metamorphoses, that comprises of 15 books detailing several myths (over 250). If you like Romeo and Juliet then I have a feeling you might like Pyramus and Thisbe too.

Held at Contact on the 26th and 27th of Nov 2015, Proud and Loud Art's adaptation of this tale promises to take a modern spin on Pyramus and Thisbe where the two lovers express their love from different locations and are brought to the same space with some technological help; an idea that came about when some members of the company could not travel long distance as it would pose a health risk.
