ON THE EDGE: FILM || VOL. 11

It is 2016 baby and the films promised to be released this year fill me with much excitement. But let's take it one step at a time shall we? Here are the films that have me on the edge of my seat in anticipation this January.

JOY

I mentioned this film in my last OtE post and it still remains a film I would really like to see. Starring Jennifer LawrenceRobert De Niro and Bradley CooperJoy has been met with a great reception so far and I will let you know my thoughts on it once I see it... or a few months after. Who knows? It is currently out in cinemas already so why not check out the trailer to see if this is up your street.

ROOM

Last month The Hollywood Reporter released a recording of its interview with some of last years most notable screenwriters and it was there that I learnt about Room from Emma Donoghue's perspective and became intrigued by the subject matter. Brie LarsonJacob Tremblay and William H. Macy all star in this film about captivity and freedom which is based on Emma's novel of the same name. It is out in cinema's on 15th Jan so until then, feel free to check out the trailer to see if this is a film you'd like to see too.

SPOTLIGHT

Again, I discovered this film via the THR's interview I mentioned above. Tom McCarthy (Million Dollar ArmUp; The Station Agent) wrote the screenplay for Spotlight which is based on a true story: the Boston Globe's investigation into the 2001 child abuse scandal that the local Catholic church attempted to cover up. Starring Mark RuffaloRachel McAdams and Michael Keaton, this film explores the power of journalism and sounds like a real eye-opener. Spotlight will be released on 29th Jan and you can find the trailer here to learn more about the film.

THE DANISH GIRL

I will pretty much watch any project with Alicia Vikander and Eddie Redmayne in it. Both of them star in The Danish Girl which follows an artistic Danish couple who traverse the path of those who find out that their partner is determined to no longer feel trapped in a body that does not feel entirely their own. This film has been out since 1st Jan and I cannot wait to see it. To find out if you too want to see this film, here is the trailer.

And there it is - a list of films I would really love to see during this first month of the new year. I have been toying with the idea of embarking on some sort of film course to help me further appreciate and understand all the elements required to generate a story in a format fit for the silverscreen and turn it into the movies and TV shows we all love (and sometimes don't love). I have no idea how that would even work but I shall try my best to give the ones on FutureLearn a go; I'll keep you posted. Until then, I hope you are all having a great week so far!
