A DATE WITH CINEMA
There is something to be said about going to the cinema on your own.
Last night I finally got to see one of the most raved-about films of 2018 and I can proudly say I, too, am definitely team ‘Go Watch this Movie!’
Shoplifters is such an incredibly tender, funny and thought-provoking film about the meaning of family and love. It was the perfect choice for a Monday night date with cinema and I implore you all to try and catch it before its last screening as it is definitely worth seeing on the big screen with or without company.
I don’t know about you but I love going to the cinema on my own. There is something special and a bit vulnerable about it that it, in its own way, alters your viewing experience. And when it occurred to me that I could not remember the last time I had gone to see a film by myself, I made it a small 2019 goal to see a film at least once a month at the cinema by myself.
If you haven’t tried popping into your local cinema by your lonesome (in a while), I say try it this week. Maybe see Shoplifters. I promise you will not feel alone despite being surrounded by strangers who oddly don’t feel like strangers - I think this is because you have all agreed to share this experience together which means you have at least one thing in common right?
