MOVIE MONDAYS: ABOUT TIME
When I saw this poster for this movie I knew it was gonna be good and that it had a strong chance of being my favourite film so far this year. It had a picture of Rachel McAdams looking amazingly beautiful mid-laugh which made me think that we really are our prettiest when we are happy, at peace, genuinely smiling and feeling loved and/or in love. In said poster there was also a man. A man called Domhnall Gleeson who looked slightly familiar but unknown to me at the time. Little did I know that I had seen his face thrice before. Oh the power of acting, hair stylists, make-up artists, fiction and cinematography.
Can I just start by saying Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Underworld; The Constant Gardener) is a fantastic actor? Yes? Well, Billy Nighy is a fantastic actor! He is just bloody brilliant in this film in my books. The movie was littered with great actors and actress; understated and popular alike. The chemistry between all them was electric.
About Time.
This film is one that is about the different threads or generations or phases or kinds of love and how they are shown and felt by a group of very interesting people. It also highlights the beauty and fickleness of life by delving into the effect certain events, no matter how small or big, can alter the outcome. Which some call the butterfly effect I believe.
And I think the fact that it was set in England made it feel that more real to me. I dunno. It was oddly refreshing.
Movie Info: About Time was directed and written by good ol' Richard Curtis (Notting Hill; Bridget Jones' Diary: Edge of Reason; Love Actually).
Tim, played by Domhnall Gleeson (Never Let Me Go; Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows 1 &2) is a young lad who is old romantic at heart. At an acceptable stage in his life his dad, a man who loves literature and his family in almost equal measure, portrayed by Bill Nighy, let him in on a family secret. Lydia Wilson (Never Let Me Go) plays the whimsical Kit Kat, Tim's sister, whose free-spirited ways keeps her life quite interesting. And Rachel McAdams (Midnight In Paris; Morning Glory; The Vow) stars in this movie as the passionate American girl, Mary, who has come to this side of the pond to see what's up. These were probably my favourite characters in the movie.
About Time is a great movie for any type of day. Watch it! Or not. I guess that is really your choice. All I can say is I really liked it.
Till next time!
