THE TV EDIT: NCIS

I had planned to kick-start this series with me jabbering on about this show but Sherlock took such a strong hold of my heart and attention so swiftly, NCIS, sadly, did not stand a chance. So forgive me, NCIS - the show that has served me well all these years and made me laugh, cry, gasp, scream and a whole lot more with each new season that comes out - for neglecting you and losing sight of what it is you truly mean to me... Ok, this is getting slightly weird now so I shall stop  trying to make it up to one of my all time favourite shows and get on with telling you more about it.

Where do I begin? I cannot even really pinpoint what makes this show awesome. It just is. Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is an American TV show that focuses on a division of the NCIS organisation/department/whatever-you-want-to-call-it based in Washington, D.C. whose job it is to solve criminal cases involving the US Navy and Marine Corps. In this division, we follow Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs and his team on their quest to find the culprits of whatever crimes that are being committed within their jurisdiction. This show has a perfect balance of action, drama and suspense to keep me coming back for many more seasons to come. Do you guys remember JAG? Come ooon, sure you do! It was a TV drama similar to NCIS but from more of a legal, judicial, lawyer-y point of view. Anyway, this is a spin-off from that show and I will be forever grateful for its creation.

NCIS was created by Donald P. Bellisario (JAGQuantum LeapMagnum, P.I.) and Don McGill (JAGNumb3rsCSI: Crime Scene Investigation) way back in 2003 and now boasts of  having 11 seasons - and counting as it has been renewed for its 12th season eeek!!!- under its belt. From watching this show you may quickly come to the conclusion that being a petty officer is statistically not in your favour at all but so much happens episode after episode that I've simply stopped trying to figure who the "baddie(s)" is/are and now just enjoy the unraveling of the mysteries. The main female characters in this show may be small and far between but  they are just as strong, smart, efficient and funny (if not more so) as the guys and I love that! I have to say I really do like the team of writers they have for this show as they have been able to keep this show going for so long and maintained its quality. Sure there are periods when an episode comes a long and it lacks a certain...punch (?) but that is to be expected as not every day as an NCIS agent has to be filled with all kinds of exciting madness. If only I were able to shadow them or be involved in their brainstorming sessions. The writers I mean, not the agents. That would totally freak me out haha.

The main characters and cast for this series are irreplaceable in my books. Each one of them, no matter how little airtime they get compared to others, are an important piece of this jigsaw puzzle of a show whom I love. Without giving too much away I will try and "briefly" mention the characters that mean quite a bit to me -I could talk for days about each one but I'll try to reign in my adoration for these characters lol. Ok, first up- Abby Scuito, played by the fabulous Pauley Perette (JAGI Am BadThe Time of Your Life), is one of my absolute favourite characters. The combination of her sense of style, intellect, big heart and stubbornness is what I think makes her awesome. The one and only Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs - who just normally goes by Gibbs but I love saying his full name - is a man of few words, dependable and selfless. He is the glue for this show and is played wonderfully by Mark Harmon (Weather GirlChicago HopeReasonable Doubts). He has "the look" down to an 'S' and with his never ending list of rules he embodies the role of a great man who is definitely one to be on the good side of. Then we have the funny, deceptively smart, loyal and all round film enthusiast Special Agent Anthony (Tony) DiNozzo. Played by Michael Weatherly (JAGDark AngelHer Minor Thing), Tony can easily take the top spot in my list of favourite characters... ever. He is that good haha. Up next is the lovely, intelligent, feisty, caring and persistent Special Agent Caitlin (Kate) Todd whose hair I really, really like. Played by Sasha Alexander (Rizzoli and IslesLuck 13Dawson's Creek), Kate is one woman you definitely want on your team and as your friend. She is a firm favourite of mine. Then we have Sean Murray (NCISHarts of The West) who takes on the role of good ol' Special Agent Timothy (Tim) McGee- the team geek who's a very sweet, focused and brilliant guy. Always trying to do the right thing, Tim easily worms his way into your heart with his kindness, high levels of tolerance and loyalty. David McCallum (Ben 10: Alien ForceThe ReplacementsSapphire & Steel) plays the role of the dashing, talkative, true-hearted and sharp Dr. Mallard a.k.a "Ducky". With his fun facts, calm demeanour and his natural need to help people, there is no way anyone could dislike good ol' Ducky. Ziva David, the most fierce, skilled, persistent and principled Special Agent this team has had is played the lovely Cote de Pablo (NCISThe Jury). She is just all kinds of awesome. She is slightly troubled and quite a complex character but I think I can say the same thing for all the characters. And last but by no means the least favourite of mine, we have the eager to please, clever, good-natured and quite inquisitive Jimmy Palmer who is played by Brian Dietzen (NCISCongratulationsSeymour Sally Rufus). Jimmy is a funny one. He compliments the team in a way I  am not able to describe at this point in time but once I do I will add that bit in.  It might have to do with his nobility but I'm not sure. All I know is I really like Jimmy. There are other characters I do want to mention but I think we all agree that I have already written too much as it is so I shall stop here.

Ahem... if you did read through all of that, kudos! I did try my best to be concise. Honest :D If you haven't seen this show and crime dramas are your thing then I do not think you will regret giving this show a bit of your time. You may not like it as much as I do but you might find yourself itching to see where the writers of this TV show will take you.

And if I haven't managed to get you thinking of adding this show to your list of things to see, then know that IMDb gave this show an 8.1 if you regard their ratings highly.

So, what's your most loved TV show at the moment?
