MOVIE MONDAYS: IT'S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY

[source]

This movie is definitely a movie that I would watch again. It was funny and educational at the same time. The general theme I think this movie has is that whatever you might be going through at this point in time, there are others out there who are going through much worse. And you really can't judge a book by it's cover. You need to read the chapters no matter how big or small they may be in order to truly understand them.

It's Kind of a Funny Story is a film (based on the book by Ned Vizzini) about a young lad, Craig, who checks himself into a psychiatric ward because he has been having some troubling thoughts. He gets the chance to meet a group of people- Noelle, Bobby, Muqtada and Dr Minerva to name a few- who help him see the bigger picture and appreciate his friends and family. Throughout the movie you could see how the layers of each character were peeled away for us to understand why they were in their current state of mind.

Made in 2010, the movie was directed and written by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck both of whom worked together on directing and writing  the films  Half Nelson and Sugar. The cast were brilliant me thinks. The ones that I felt had more of a prominent role in the movie were: Keir Gilchrist (The United States of Tara), who played the role of Craig; Emma Roberts (The Art of Getting By; Wild Child; Nancy Drew; Aquamarine), who played the role of Noelle; Zach Galifianakis (Hangover 1&2; Due date; The Campaign), who played the role of Bobby and; Viola Davis (The Help; Solaris; Disturbia; United States of Tara) who played the role of Dr Minerva.

The movie is almost like a coming of age story that is quite different from the usual ones that get pushed out every year.  If you are looking for a movie to watch that has a bit of reality, love, friendship, hardship and all that jazz in it, this is a film that fits that bill.

Till next time!

Luv. Mo
