MOVIE MONDAYS: MAN OF STEEL
Wow!
Just... wow!
This is a movie that did not fail to amuse me throughout the entire film. I am surprised and appalled by the ratings it got on Rotten Tomatoes. I don't know what film they saw because it cannot be the same one I did. IMDb, however, got it right.
Mona and I got up especially early (10.30am) on the day of release to catch an early showing (1.30pm) so that we could avoid the mob of Superman fans. We stopped by Mc D on the way to the cinema to obtain our fuel for the amazingness we were about to go see.
Come rain or sunshine, a Mc Flurry will totally brighten your day.
Once we purchased our tickets and proceeded towards the screen the movie was to be shown on, we were presented with a little gift:
This made us very happy.
Onto the movie
I do not want to belittle the other Superman installments at all but I never anticipated their openings as much as I did for this one. This is one out of the few DC movies that actually matched its anticipated success. Maybe it was the fact that Christopher Nolan was involved... I dunno. All I know is I wasn't disappointed one bit. The movie was dark, emotional, packed with action and very fast-paced. I swear like 6 seasons worth of Smallville was shown in like 15 mins. That tickled me. The scene that had me laughing for a good 5 mins was the one with the handcuffs. When you watch it you'll know why. It was hilarious.
But onto "important" matters, did you see the man on that body? I know that that was totally a "girly" thing to say but I think I just had to put that out there for a quick second.
Moving on, the cast for this movie was brilliant. Aside from his looks, Henry Cavill (The Tudors; Stardust; Immortals) is actually a really good actor. My love and need to shelter Clark Kent from all the evil things in the world was awoken once again. The similarities between him and Tom Welling are uncanny aren't they? I did not find Louis Lane, who was played by Amy Adams (The Fighter; Enchanted; Sunshine Cleaning), all that annoying which was a big plus. Kevin Costner (The Bodyguard; Swing Vote; The Company Men) and Diane Lane (The Perfect Storm; Must Love Dogs; Nights in Rodanthe) were the perfect choices for Jonathan and Martha Kent. Again don't they look sorta similar to John Schneider and Annette O'Toole who played the same characters in Smallville? And Russell Crowe (Gladiator; A Beautiful Mind; State of Play)was fabulous in this. I was shocked. Him? As Jor-El? But it worked. Laurence Fishburne was also in this movie. Totally thought he'd morph into Morpheus. One can dream. Michael Shannon (The Runaways; Boardwalk Empire) was the perfect bad guy. I wasn't torn between sympathy and hatred. I totally disliked General Zod. Another highly misguided individual was Faora-Ul who was played by Antje Traue. She was cool but evil. Christopher Meloni (Law and Order; True Blood) also made an appearance in this film as Colonel Hardy. He was a true patriot. Those are a few of the main characters that caught my eye.
Man of Steel was directed by Zack Snyder (300; Watchmen; Dawn of the Dead) and its screen play was written by David Goyer (The Batman Trilogy). The consequence of this partnership was that a great film was made.
If you have not seen this movie I doubt you'd be disappointed. In fact you could be tempted to start a Man of Steel blog or forum. It is a film that has something for everybody- action, comedy, romance and Henry Cavill.
Till next time!
Luv, Mo

P.S. We stayed until the every end and there was no additional clip after the credits. I guess only Marvel shares hidden scenes.
