MOVIE MONDAYS: THE WOLF OF WALL STREET
Whoop! I believe I am now with the times in terms of film as last Saturday the girls and I went to go see The Wolf of Wall Street. From the posters I had seen around town I had come to the ever-so-wrong conclusion that this film was a musical. I was expecting fireworks, Leonardo DiCaprio dressed up as the big bad wolf swaying his furry hips down Wall Street in a tie and a lot of funny songs about the stock market. If you think like me, although I highly doubt it, let me just clear this up for you- it is in fact not a musical nor is anyone dressed up as a wolf. And to be honest, I was a little saddened by this fact.

The Wolf of Wall Street showcases the highs and lows of the cunning Jordan Belfort's career as a stockbroker and his colourful relationships with those around him. It gives a glimpse into the consequences of allowing too much of a good thing, power and the temptation of tons of money get the better of you. Directed by Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas; Shutter Island; Hugo) and its screen play written by Terence Winter (The Sopranos; Boardwalk Empire), this film is sure to make you gasp in surprise and/or disgust, laugh yourself silly and shake your head due to array of emotions lol.
I must state that although this is not my kind of movie in the slightest I can, however, admit that it actually was well made. I cannot say that I have read the Jordan Belfort's book from which this movie was based on nor was I part of his inner circle at the time so I cannot comment on how true the film's account of the events are. What I can say is this - The acting is superb! The lines, riddled with a very small range of swear words and laced with humour, are great and the overall look and feel of the film was quite entertaining.

My, oh my! Is Leonardo DiCaprio (Titanic; Inception; The Great Gatsby) a brilliant actor or what??? My goodness. His character, Jordan Belfort was, in my opinion, a man high on certain pleasures of life and one that completely forgot to lay an anchor to the world of reality. And Leonard DiCaprio did a fantastic job of bringing this character to life. Amongst Jordan's partners in crime - ha!- was a loyal and almost constantly inebriated chap called Donnie Azoff, played greatly by Jonah Hill (Superbad; Moneyball; This Is The Ends). His lines always had me in stitches. Aaaand!! Margot Robbie (Neighbours; Pan Am; About Time) also starred in this movie as the beautiful, loving and patient Naomi Lapaglia. As soon as I saw her I was like, "It' Donna!!" haha. The person that caught me by surprise though was Matthew McConaughey (The Wedding Planner; How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days; Failure To Launch) as Mark Hanna. That character made me giggle all the way home. All I could think of was his "song"- watch the movie and you will know which one I am referring to haha!

So to round up, if you want to see this movie I do not think you will be disappointed. It is funny, sad and filled with a lot of people baring their...vulnerability. However, please note that it film is rated 18. You have been warned. I kinda didn't realise until I saw that clip just before a movie starts. You know, the one that shows the title and rating with some signatures. Yeah, that *shakes head*. Brace yourself.
