IN LONDON: SOHO HOUSE, DEAN STREET

A couple weeks ago I told you briefly about my trip to London to catch a preview screening of the new TV show Chewing Gum which will air on E4 next month. Today, I want to shed a little light on my journey to the screening's venue and the venue itself.

Waking up much earlier than usual for a Friday morning, I made my way down to London and proceeded to make my way to where the screening was held. Not sure if I will ever get used to the underground but the one thing that I did make it easier was the fact that you can now use your contact-less bank card to pay for tickets; no more waiting in line. Once I made my way to Oxford Circus and quickly walked past all the stores whose windows were subtly trying to seduce my purse, I tried as much as possible to find Soho House without turning on the invisible neon sign above me that either says 'Tourist' or 'Ain't Got A Clue'. I want to say I succeeded but we will never know.

The décor in Soho House was such that I had no choice but to photograph it. And yes, the seats are as comfy as they look. There was a selection of glassware filled with all kinds of liquid goodness on a chic-looking bar behind which a voice said to grab one and settle in. I obliged, naturally, especially when said glass full of liquid goodness was free. After chatting to one of the lovely organisers of the event I made my way deeper into the below ground room. I found a seat that was calling my name ever so seductively and I figured it was best to give in. My feet were thankful.

Soon after I wiggled my bum deeper into my seat I met Kady, a freelance copywriter who currently works for Funny Women, and we got to know each other better over a plate of the most unique bowl of mango salad I've ever had and a few sandwiches whose fillings I couldn't quite decipher. Finding someone to chat to events like these can be somewhat of a daunting thing for me. I have mentioned on here before about my prowess as an effective communicator but I try to not let it get to me too much. I feel like I did okay seeing as I hung out with Kady for the duration of the event and she did not seem to mind haha. Oo! And I also managed to ask Michaela Coel a question when the Q&A session was opened up to the floor. And I had the opportunity to meet the lovely producer of Chewing Gum, Kelly McGolpin, whom you'll get to know a bit more of soon in the next ATMS entry so I definitely met my target for that day.

All in all it was a great day. I learnt a lot; not only about myself but about the wonderful people I met and the world of comedy & television. I could not believe my luck when Lesley invited me to attend this event but I am grateful she did. Thank you Lesley! And if you are looking for a beautiful place to catch up with a few people and you are in the London area then you might want to check out Soho House. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and whilst I did not sample a lot of their food, I enjoyed what I did have. I wish I took more pictures as I feel the ones I have don't do the place justice. Anyway, I hope you are having a great day!
