LIFE EDIT: AUGUST

August 2015 was, in short, an eye-opening month. One filled with good company, delicious food, harmless tears and face-straining-grins. Looking back, sure I can find head-shaking moments that would tempt me into hopping into a time machine (if one existed) to tweak my actions slightly but then I won't have learnt anything. Anyway, enough of that. Let's see what I got up to in August.

The first major thing that happened in August was my sister and I eagerly waking up on Saturday the 15th at 4am to quickly and quietly get ready to catch our early morning coach to London. If you saw my last On the Edge post you would know that we (and my friend Mercy) were one of the lucky ones who got some tickets last year to see Hamlet at the Barbican. And so off to London we went, giddy as can be. And it did not really hit me that we would be seeing Benedict Cumberbatch in the flesh until I was sat on my seat and the curtains gave way to the stage upon which one of William Shakespeare's famous plays was reenacted. After we were blown away by the play, I had the opportunity to watch my sister in action as she held a quick photoshoot for her blog. I cannot wait to see the editorial and will share the link on here once it's up. All in all that day was intense. So many emotions, so many highs. It was fantastic!

My good friend from university who saw me through some dark and funny times, Asima, was in town for a while and we managed to get our schedules aligned such that we could pig out majorly at TGIF. I am not going to lie, I did feel slightly guilty afterwards but it did not last long once I remembered just how good the food was. Their BBQ chicken wings will render you speechless. Gosh! I will definitely be ordering that again whenever I go back there. And speaking of BBQ chicken, a couple weekends ago my brother and I made our way to go see our aunt and attend her summer family BBQ. It was so good. And it is only at a Nigerian BBQ where your first dish could be garri and a bowl of egusi soup. But hey, I am not complaining at all. It was great catching up with my cousins and getting away from my flat for a couple days. It really felt like I was on holiday and I've now made the conscious decision to do that more often - to take some time off from work and live life; connect with people and spend time with just me doing the things I love, come rain or sunshine.

I know I do not have to spell this out to you but I kind of have this big thing for stories told cinematically. And this month I also had the pleasure of meeting a handful of filmmakers who have not only broadened my understanding of film but have also unknowingly forced me to delve deeper into the world of filmmaking and discover all I can about it. And if my ATMS series is anything to go by, I try my best not to miss an opportunity to learn more about the people behind the creative projects I've come across. One creative project that has captured my attention is the biannual travel & style magazine called Cereal. The words. The pictures. The publication as a whole to me is so much more that a coffee table magazine. It is so well put together and my main source of inspiration at the moment. You should check it out if you haven't already!

August was, like I said at the beginning, an eye-opener. It ended with my sister and I seeing Man from U.N.C.L.E (so gooooooood!!! A MM post is on its way), stopping by the Manchester Pride parade and seeing Ian McKellen, getting one of my birthday presents from myself early and celebrating my dad's birthday. Looking forward to seeing what September brings. I am taking part in another IG photo challenge during September (#TalesOfSeptember run by@Toris_Talesbecause I enjoyed joining in on the #AugustBreak2015 photo challenge run by Susannah Conway quite a bit. It has been fun trying to express myself (or should I say my perception on things) on IG and connecting with people across the globe. We'll see how this goes. I hope you've had a lovely August. Here's to September!
