Behind-the-Scenes

Hair in Paradise

Yesterday felt like the most successful relaxer experience I have had...ever! My hair has grown people and I have somehow managed to retain some sort of length despite all the breakage. Ha! Maybe i am in denial I dunno.

I used the ORS (Organic Root Stimulator) relaxer at normal strength this time as that is what was advised by the lady who normally does my hair. A friend of mine came over to help relax my hair as I am not brave enough to it by myself yet. I did it once and my hair was soo under-processed I decided to let someone else help me out. I have to say the normal strength is too "weak" for my hair. To be perfectly honest with you, I have no idea what type of hair  I have. I believe I have thick fine hair because although I do have many strands of hair (the lady who used to do braids for me literally clears her whole day to do my hair haha!) the hair shaft itself is rather thin. But when I am due for a touch-up, boy does my hair turn into something else. I had that relaxer on my hair for 30 mins almost and I felt nothing. We didn't mean to take that long but by the time my friend had managed to navigate through new growth with the relaxer time had flown by silently. She was awesome though. She was so patient unlike I would have probably been lol.

I followed the instructions to the T after that :)
  1. Rinsed the relaxer out
  2. Shampooed my hair with the neutralizing shampoo that comes in the kit and then rinsed.
  3. Deep conditioned my hair with the conditioner that comes with the kit and then rinsed.
  4. Towel-dried my hair via the patting method as I like to call it.
  5. Applied my ApHogee Pro-Vitamin Leave-In Conditioner
  6. Allowed to air-dry for a bit and then ran some ORS Olive Oil moisturizing lotion through my hair.
  7. Blow-dried my hair.
  8. Added some of the ORS Glossing Polisher to my hair and then straightened it.
Ok...so maybe not to the T but I believe I did something right because my hair feels and looks yummy! :D It looked like the hair of the models used for relaxer adverts. Not joking. I think the Roux Porosity Control conditioner may have also helped as I used that 2 days before I relaxed my hair. My hair felt good. the strands weren't scraggly-looking or on edge. My hair didn't feel as dry as it had been for the past 3 weeks so I will definitely find a way to incorporate that into my regime. But it also feels like it has been texturised. My roots are still a bit curly but waaaaaaaay more manageable than a day ago lol. I have used the ORS relaxer in extra strength and that relaxes my hair bone straight in about 20mins but that is not the look I want because of my fine hair. With the normal strength, I still have body and movement and although the relaxer was in for what could be considered as ages; not to me though as there have been times when I used to have relaxers in for 45mins- 1 hour....oh how ignorance makes us feel blissfully silly lol.

For my next touch-up, which will be in another 12-14 weeks (depending on how unruly my new growth is)  I will use the ORS normal strength relaxer again but try to do it in the recommended amount of time and see if I get a similar result. Don't want to end up frying my hair with flammable chemicals lol.

Once I am more tech-savvy, I shall upload some pictures of my hair developments so you don't just read my ridiculously long block of texts :)

Luv, Mo xx
