About Time: My Blog is 1 yr Old Today
[source] |
From the title of this post you have most likely come to the realisation that my blog is 1 yr old today. Yay Within My Locket!!
Now, I know almost all bloggers do this. They will tell you how much they have achieved in the past year like how they now have 10,000 new followers; how they have had 10+ interviews with some of the world's greatest journalists; how the lowest number of views per day their blog has is 5000; how many collaborations they have with X no. of companies; how they now have a book deal; how they now have their own cooking channel/clothing line etc.
I, however, will not... Because I have achieved none of those things in the 1 year that I have had my blog up and running. And I am not jealous or anything...today ;-)
I won't lie, it would have been pretty awesome if I could say I have achieved one of those things but I am pretty pleased with my lil virtual baby's progress. To the bloggers out there who have celebrated their blog's birthday (and the ones who are yet to do so) and have seen their blog grow exponentially- CONGRATULATIONS!! :D
What I will be doing today is sharing with you the true essence of Within My Locket- a post about the nothings and somethings that tickle my fancy today.
First up: Hair
My poor attempt at a hair growth collage (?) |
I relaxed my hair waaaaay back on the 6th of September at a cute little salon in a part of Manchester I have never been to before that seemed like a portal between here and Nigeria. I have never wanted to be able to understand a language more in my life. They could have sold me and I would have just smiled and paid them the money for relaxing my hair before I am escorted into an unmarked van. Anyway, my hair seemed to have grown quite a bit compared to where was last year. I am quite pleased with my progress. Once I move into my flat hopefully I will be able to take proper care of my hair. I shall expand on my current situation another time not that you are interested.
Second up: Movies
[source] |
I find it ridiculously easy to blog about movies. And as you all know, it is not like I share anything profound about them as I did not study film/cinematography/drama/media studies and I am no film critic. I just blog about things I love and film is one of them. The movie that I loved the most this year that I have not yet spoken about is About Time. Being the weird person that I am, I will speak more about this in another post as it just has to be a part of the Movie Mondays series. Just know that I love it.
Third up: Life
This has definitely been a year of change for me. I finished my last year of university and passed (whoop!). I was fortunate enough to find something kinda interesting to do this summer- a summer contract with a company in the food industry. My student card expired on the 14th of September (T'was a very dark day for me). I am currently living in limbo (i.e.crashing at friend's) until I am up and running as searching for a flat ain't the easiest thing. I attended my 1st ever baby shower which brought to my attention that I am at that phase of my life where I should be settling into a serious relationship, getting a mortgage on my dream home, travelling the world, getting married, publishing textbooks, having kids...you know, passing the major life milestones. However, I decided to take it one milestone at a time- mastering the art of cooking new dishes which is so much fun (that's my version of That Green Curry in the pic above).
Fourth up: Writing
All in all, this year has been a good one. My blog has captured moments and thoughts I have had in the past year which I would have probably forgotten one day.
As for the success of my blog...we'll see what the next year brings. I have never actively promoted my blog and I highly doubt I will start now if I am honest hehe. Also my blog is one that cannot be placed in a category and I feel that there are not that many people out there who share my interests. This is why I not surprised that I have not been nominated for a 'Blog of The Year' award.
The reason I started this blog was to share my written "work" with others and I have achieved that. I even started a new blog dedicated to the written word- mine and others. So, to me, my baby has achieved a distinction this year. I am excited for what next year will bring :)
Till next time!
Luv, Mo xx
P.S. I will be publishing more detailed posts about some of the events that I have mentioned. If you are interested in them keep a look out :D
