MOVIE MONDAYS: WILD

You may or may not have noticed this but there seems to be quite a number of biographical films out this season but Wild is definitely one that is worth watching if you get the chance. Gone are the days where should you see Reese Witherspoon you automatically think Legally Blonde. Her performance in this film is indeed noteworthy and was a great thing to behold on a lovely but chilly Saturday afternoon back in January.

For me, Wild is about discovery - one woman's quest to truly acknowledge the good, the bad and the ugly parts of her life and determine how the next stage of her life will be... on her 1000 mile hike. Based on the memoir of Cheryl Strayed, this heartbreaking-but-at-times-quite-funny-film has a strong chance of leaving you eager to ensure you are doing all you can to keep your head afloat on the path you are currently on and prepared to make any necessary moves to make sure you are doing right by you.

Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers ClubCafé de FloreThe Young Victoria) took on the hat as director for this film whilst the screenplay for Wild was brought about by Nick Hornby (An EducationAbout A BoyFever Pitch). Now although this film has not currently found its way onto my favourites list yet, I cannot deny the fact that it is a good'un. Performance wise, Reese Witherspoon (The Good LieWater for ElephantsPenelope) and Laura Dern (99 HomesThe Fault In Our StarsJurassic Park) were brilliant; no doubt about that. And the scenery almost had me ordering a plane ticket and a pair of hiking boots but alas, my trusty bank account had other plans for me.

Although our paths differ we all have our rough terrains that we have to maneuver in order to see mostly light amongst the darkness that threatens to cloud our vision sometimes. This story is a testament to that. And I know we all do not have to go on a 1000 mile walk to try and figure out what the next step is going to be but just know that whatever your version of a 1000 mile hike is, I am rooting for you! ;) So, if you are looking for a movie that is bound to leave you inspired then give

Wild

a go.
